Are We Fixed or Growing ?

Friends, hello

I've been absorbing a lot of information recently and its sent my mind on a trip...I am currently reading 'Long Walk To Freedom' by Nelson Mandela. It's a very emotional, eye opening and thought-provoking book. Be weary of where you read it because you will tear up. That's the main read for the moment but in and amongst that, I've been sticking my head into newspaper articles, blogposts, and YouTube videos that have been opening my mind up to the possibilities of the world and my life. Today I really just want to share an article by Maria Popova, the mind behind I don't really want to go too deep into what was discussed, as I feel you should read it for yourself. The article titled 'Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives' talks about Carol Dwecks book 'Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.'

The terms growth and fixed mindset were devised by Dweck. In short the fixed mindset is "believing that your qualities are carved in stone" and the growth mindset is "belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through efforts". She explores these mindsets in the behaviour and attitude of children towards "failure" and "success," identifying which mindset the children fall into and how that affects their outlook on life. She also goes on to explain how these mindsets shape how we interact with loved ones and if we take time to look into ourselves, we'll be able to find the "why" in our behavioural patterns when looking through the lens of these mindsets.

I think I've babbled on enough now. I urge you all to read more and in particular this article... And friends, look at your life and see where you sit and be honest with yourself, because in the end that'll help YOU excel in life and that's a major key.

Heres the link to the article and I hope you find it as transformative as I did: Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives

The saying goes, fake it till you make it. For a long time I've agreed with the saying but just this past week I attended a meeting that made me think otherwise. To 'fake it' is not really faking because you are in essence exerting this energy from within. Confidence starts within. It should be nurtured from within, I find that if I rely on a source outside of myself for reassurance or a confidence boost it often falls short. This happens when I've overwhelmed myself with all the things I'm going to achieve in my life and for a moment, (some longer than others) I slip and catch myself wondering will it happen? Can I do it? Obviously its already been achieved because the dream was mine the minute I decided so but sometimes I lose my confidence.

It takes me looking within to find and rebuild it. Istudy myself and I remember all the amazing things about me. I remember why I started. Mirror self affirmations as previous posts have mentioned are used. It takes concerted effort, a realigning and monitoring of my thoughts, emotions and actions. I draw the energy from within and realise myself back into the confident woman I know I am. This not only boosts the confidence, but, assures that the foundation of my confidence is in me. There will be no need for me to look else where.

It gets easier each time I slip and in tough times I use two things: reflection, as it shows me how far I've come and reminds me of all the reasons I started. I also day dream, I see myself into the life I'm going to live and when I say daydream I mean I dream boldly. I realise myself into my dreams achieved. This is usually a big enough kick for me to dust myself off and get back on track with the hustle. I really hope this makes sense to you all, don't fake it till you make it, the minute you feel an incling of doubt look within to remind yourself that what you need is inside of you.
